Our Story

Threads of Gulab began with a simple problem: hand block printing, one of Jaipur's oldest textile crafts, was disappearing. Machine printing is faster and cheaper, and fewer workshops could justify keeping the old teakwood blocks in use.

We work with artisan block printers in Bagru and Sanganer, the two neighborhoods where this craft has been practiced for generations. Each block is still hand-carved. Each length of fabric is still printed by hand, one press at a time, using dyes mixed the same way they were decades ago.

That process is slower and less consistent than a printing press — colors shift slightly between batches, and no two garments are ever quite the same. We consider that a feature, not a flaw: it's the clearest evidence that a person, not a machine, made what you're wearing.
