Threads of Gulab produces in small batches, in India, with a limited number of artisan block printing workshops. We're not set up to scale the way a mass-market brand is, and that's intentional — beyond a certain volume, hand block printing stops being hand block printing.
This has real trade-offs. Our prices are higher than a machine-printed equivalent, because hand printing takes longer and the workshops we work with are compensated for skilled, time-intensive work rather than piece-rate factory output. Our turnaround is slower, because we don't hold large standing inventory.
In exchange, you get a garment that was printed by hand in a specific workshop, using a technique that's centuries old and increasingly rare. If that trade-off matters to you, we think you'll be glad you made it.
